Vows: Friday 19 January – 7-9pm
Family Planning NT, Coconut Grove

Throughout our life we find ourself turning to things we feel will provide relief from the difficulties and pains of life, but usually these things have no power to give us lasting protection. Even doctors, who can sometimes cure our illness, cannot protect us from the sufferings of aging and death.

What we need is the inner protection of spiritual experience which can permanently liberate us from all suffering and problems. In the Buddhist tradition, this depends upon entering, making progress on and completing the Buddhist path to liberation, which in turn depends upon entering Buddhism. We enter Buddhism through the practice of going for refuge.

On Thursday night Gen Kelsang Dornying will explain the causes and methods of going for refuge. Then, by receiving inspiration from enlightened beings and help from Sangha, pure spiritual practitioners, we will attain the actual realisations of Buddha’s teachings, or Dharma, in our heart. This is how to find real inner protection and the gateway to the Buddhist path to permanent liberation.

On Friday night Gen Dornying will grant Refuge Vows, the vows for officially becoming a Buddhist, as well as formalizing our entry into the Buddhist path and the Buddhist way of life.
